Kale is often avoided due to the bitter taste, however, it is a superfood! Try whipping up our kale crisps for a healthy alternative to regular crisps. This recipe is really easy to make and is also extremely healthy and provides your body with a lot of nutrients.
According to HealthEating.com ‘In 1 cup of kale chips, you’ll consume 134 percent of your daily vitamin C needs to support immune function and more than 600 percent of your daily vitamin K requirements for proper blood clotting. The olive oil used to make the chips also contains 10 percent of the daily value for vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties.’
Our method of cooking the kale retains all the nutritional value, creating a nutrient-dense and low-calorie snack which is great for keeping your fitness goal on track.
- 2 medium-sized bunch of Kale – washed and dried very well
- 2 tsp Olive Oil
- 1 pinch of Salt
- 1 pinch of Garlic Powder
Prep Time: 5 Minutes
Cooling Time: 10-15 Minutes
- Preheat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius. Wash & dry the bunch of kale, ensuring that all the leaves are completely dry, otherwise, you’ll end up with soggy crisps. Cut and remove any stems to avoid the chewy veins of the kale and cut the rest of the leaves into chip-sized pieces.
- Arrange the pieces of kale on a lined baking sheet (you may need 2 trays). Drizzle the olive oil over the kale as evenly as possible. Using your hands, massage the oil into the kale to ensure each leaf is coated with oil. It may look like you need more oil, however, by adding more this will add to the moisture and will not allow them to crisp. If you do need to add oil, add one drop at a time. Sprinkle the salt and garlic powder over, and once again ensure each leaf is fully coated.
- Place the pan into the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes. Take the pan out of the oven and flip every piece and rotate the pan before placing it back into the oven. Bake for another 10 minutes, watching the pan closely so they do not burn. Once they are crisped on both sides, remove from the oven and allow them to cool for 3-5 minutes before serving.
