September: The Perfect Month For A Wellness Reset

September marks the perfect opportunity to overhaul your routines and create healthier habits.

We love what this season represents—a fresh start. Following a summer filled with travel, children, and little time for rest, September is the perfect month for a reset.

Have you ever considered how minor tweaks to your daily routine can dramatically elevate your overall health? In this blog, we explore the transformative path on the three pillars for the perfect wellness reset:

Mind: Resetting Mental Clarity

September always brings a sense of excitement. It’s like the whole world wakes up and is ready for the final stretch of 2024. Schools are back open, and companies are thriving. The collective energy makes September the perfect time for realigning your mental focus.

1. Mindfulness Exercise as a daily routine

You can transform your day by practicing mindfulness, such as a quick meditation or deep breathing exercises. Ten minutes each morning is all you need to combat stress and improve your focus.  This small change will create a positive ripple effect for the rest of the day, making things easier to handle.

2. Explore the World of Mental Fitness Programs

Headspace or Calm are magic apps that serve as your mini mindfulness coach in your pocket. These apps offer guided sessions that you can access anytime, anywhere.

3. Set New Goals to Navigate Your Journey

September is not only a month to reflect but also a month to set new goals! This fantastic month of transformation signifies fresh starts and new beginnings. Whether your goals are for personal growth or career advancement, having concise, achievable goals will give your month direction and purpose. Make a point to write them down so that you can revisit them. It will keep you grounded and motivated. It is your time to shine, so refine your focus and approach your days with mindfulness and intent.

Body: Revitalising Physical Health and Fitness

After a summer filled with barbecues, ice cream, and maybe too much sun, your body might be craving a reset. September is the ideal month to refocus on fitness and healthy eating, laying the foundation for a strong and energetic end to 2024.

1. Re-establish Your Routine

Now is the perfect time to get back on track if you’ve fallen out of your fitness routine. The Cooler weather makes it more comfortable to exercise outdoors. You can embrace activities like jogging, cycling, or hiking in the UK’s beautiful public gardens.

3 exercise program ideas that are truly transformative and can be tailored to your lifestyle and fitness level. Let’s dive in:

  • The Power of Strength Training: Embarking on a strength training journey can be a game-changer. Weightlifting just 2-3 times can yield remarkable results. Starting with foundational exercises like squats, deadlifts and bench presses. This will help you build lean muscle and significantly boost your metabolism.
  • Balance with Pilates and Yoga: Pilates and Yoga improve core strength, flexibility, and mental tranquility. You can join a local class or follow an online instructor. These practices are accessible to beginners and advanced.
  • HIIT Training: For those days when time is of the essence, High-intensity interval Training (HIIT) is potent.  You only need 20-30 minutes daily, three times a week. HIIT improves my cardiovascular health and is incredibly effective for fat burning. These exercise programs promise physical transformation and a renewed sense of energy.

Your thirty-minute HIIT routine could look like the following:

  • Jumping jacks: 1 minute work, 30 seconds rest. Stand with feet together and arms at your sides. Jump, spreading your feet and raising your arms overhead. Then, jump back to the starting position.
  • High knees: 1 minute work, 30 seconds rest. Stand with feet hip-width apart. Drive one knee toward your chest, then quickly switch to the other. Alternate rapidly.
  • Burpees: 45 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. Stand upright and drop into a squat with hands on the ground. Extend feet into a plank, do a push-up, return to squat, and jump up with arms overhead.
  • Mountain climbers: 45 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. Start in a plank position. Alternate driving knees toward your chest rapidly.
  • Plank jacks: 30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. In a plank position, jump feet out to the sides, then back together. Keep a straight line from head to heels.
  • Squat jumps: 30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. Start in a squat position. Jump explosively, reaching arms overhead, land softly, and repeat.
  • Jump rope: 45 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. Hold jump rope handles in each hand. Swing the rope over your head and jump with both feet. Maintain a steady rhythm.
  • Side-step toe touch: 30 seconds work, 30 seconds rest. Stand with feet together, arms at your sides. Step one foot to the side and touch your toe with the opposite hand. Return to the start and repeat on the other side. Alternate sides rapidly.

2.  Rest and Hydration

Seven to eight hours will support your body’s recovery and regeneration. Remember to drink plenty of water, especially if you are significantly active.

3. Lean into the season

Autumn brings a lot of nutritious seasonal food like Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Leeks, Beetroot, Parsnips, Butternut Squash, Cranberries, Cauliflower, Swiss Chard, apples, pears, pumpkins, and root vegetables, adding flavour to your meals and contains vitamins and minerals that support overall health.

Emotions: Balancing Emotional Well-being

The change in seasons can sometimes bring about melancholy or stress, making September an essential time to reset emotionally.

As you transition from a light-hearted energy to a more reflective September, it is essential to pay attention to your emotional well-being.

1. Gratitude practices

Take a few minutes every day to reflect on what you are grateful for. This can shift your mindset significantly from negative to positive, which will surely bring contentment and peace. Start with writing one thing down each day and slowly build up this list as the days go on. Aim for ten items a day by the end of September.

2. Connect with Nature

Autumn is one of the UK’s most beautiful times. Take advantage of the stunning scenery by spending time outdoors. Whether it’s a walk through a local park, a visit to the countryside, or simply sitting in your garden with a cup of tea, connecting with nature can significantly boost your mood and emotional well-being.

3. Emotional exercises

  • Journaling: Attend or start a journaling group where participants share their reflections and emotional journeys. This can be a therapeutic way to process feelings.
  • Group Therapy or Counselling: Many people find emotional balance through talking therapies. Consider joining a group or individual counselling session to explore lingering emotions or stresses.
  • Social Fitness: Balance emotional well-being by staying connected with loved ones. Plan regular meet-ups, join a new social group, or participate in community events. These connections can support, reduce stress, and enhance your happiness.

Embrace the September wellness reset

September offers a unique opportunity to reset and rejuvenate. It’s a time to refocus on your mind, body, and emotions, laying the groundwork for a healthier, more balanced lifestyle. With a renewed focus on fitness, health, and emotional well-being, you can step into September feeling refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on the rest of the year with vitality and enthusiasm.
